TCPS Student Wins High School Heisman in State of Mississippi

BELDEN, Miss. (WCBI/TCPS) — For the second consecutive year, a TCPS student has won the Wendy’s High School Heisman for the state of Mississippi.

Senior Mary Cockrell of Tupelo Christian Preparatory School in Belden was named the 2013 state winner in the Wendy’s High School Heisman for her success on the field, in the classroom, and in the community.

The Wendy’s High School Heisman panel of distinguished judges now takes over as the state winners have been announced. Program judges include representatives from the worlds of education, business, and sports along with former college Heisman Trophy winners and former national Wendy’s High School Heisman winners.

The award for Cockrell now makes it back to back years that TCPS has had a state award winner in Mississippi. Evan Talton was the Mississippi state award winner for the boys in 2012.
