NANIH WAIYA, Miss. (WCBI) — A busy day on Friday led to a big day for three Nanih Waiya Warriors.

Wyatt Ball, Marlee Parkes and Mackenzie Johnson all signed on to continue their baseball and softball careers at East Central.

Ball’s .559 batting average in 80 plate appearances was one of the best marks in the state during his junior season. His four home runs and 36 RBI’s were both the best statistics on the team a season ago.

As just a freshman, Ball was a key piece to Nanih Waiya’s run at the 1A State Championship. His brother, Stewart, is a sophomore at EMCC playing for the Lions’ baseball program.

Both Johnson and Parkes have been major cogs in the Nanih Waiya softball machine during their time with the Warriors, helping lead the team to the 2013 State Championship and back to back appearances in the 1A State Title in 2014 & 2015.

Johnson was the team’s best hitter as a junior, swinging at a .524 clip with 5 home runs and 18 RBI’s. Her 20 stolen bases also led the team.

Parkes has continued to be one of the best outfielders for the Warriors during her time at Nanih Waiya. Her combined .333 batting average in her five seasons of playing varsity makes her a consistent threat at the dish.
