Video: HB 1523 Could be Headed to Court

JACKSON, Miss. (WCBI) -The heated debate on gay marriage and religious freedom in Mississippi could continue in court

The American Civil Liberties Union filed a lawsuit Monday, challenging House Bill 1523.

The group filed the lawsuit also on behalf of a gay couple who are engaged to be married and face discrimination as a result of this law.

House Bill 1523 allows public officials and businesses to refuse to serve gay and transgender individuals.

The organization claims the law goes against the Supreme Court ruling that outlawed discrimination against same-sex couples.

The case, ACLU of Mississippi versus Judy Moulder, was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Mississippi in Jackson.

House Bill 1523 becomes law July 1st.
