COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) The Columbus School District discussed what they call “game-changing” legislation at their board meeting Monday night.

Several new bills will go into effect for the upcoming school year including an act that will give the board authority to approve charter schools. Once passed, all schools in the state will be required to accept charter school transfer credits. Another bill states that all high schools that have a graduation rate of less than 80% will be required to submit a plan to the State Department of Education for reconstruction. Columbus High School is currently at 70%.
