STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) -If you’re planning a trip to a Doctors office anytime soon you may want to plan for a little extra wait time.

According to a recent survey about trends in patient care, the doctors visit may be taking longer than expected. The average wait time to see a physician across the country is 20 minutes. Mississippi has the longest wait at 26 minutes with Alaska with the quickest time at 16 minutes. But for Starkville Urology it’s all about patient satisfaction.

Head Nurse Celia Kidder says, “A lot of our patients are regular patients and they know that they’re going to wait at least 30 minutes in the waiting room. But they also know that our staff is all about patient care here. We want them to have a great experience along with them to have plenty of time to see the doctor and talk about whatever issue brought them here.”

Case load and procedures play a big role in a patients wait time. How long you spend in a waiting room may also deal with what type of doctor you may be visiting.

Office Manager Dawn Ingram says, “We do everything that deals with urology including prostate, kidney and bladder. As well as kidney cancer, bladder cancer, prostate cancer and vasectomy. He’s the only one in the area that does the no scalpel no needle vasectomy.”

Dr. Castleberry tries to see anywhere from 60 to 70 patients a day. His popularity adds to his patients wait time but many don’t seem to mind.

According to Kidder, “As far as planning our our schedule we try to accommodate each patient as well as we can. If there is a lot of procedures that day we’ll try to put those in the afternoon so a patient just needing a follow up visit wouldn’t have to wait because of that.”

For your next appointment, head nurse Celia Kidder has a tip to follow so you can get in and out.

Kidder says, “The best tip I can give is to make a first thing in the morning appointment or beginning of the afternoon appointment.”

Another procedure that has added to Dr. Castleberry’s popularity is his age management program that takes a patients age and maps out a routine for patients to follow to ensure healthy living and better quality of life.
