CLAY COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — It’s officially deer hunting season and one ministry is making dreams come true for several hunters. It’s all apart of Passionate Pursuit Ministries, a group of volunteers who take people of all ages with disabilities out to the great outdoors. But for the ministry, it’s not all about hunting the biggest buck.

The big day kicked off with a worship service at The Refuge Church in West Point. The church, whose mission is to put their faith in action, serves as a host for Passionate Pursuit Ministry.

For about 5 years, the group of hunters have given people with disabilities the chance to venture into the woods.

“We all love the outdoors, we love hunting and we wanted to incorporate our love for Christ into the passions that he has given us with the outdoors and just sharing that love with everyone,” said Allen Flynt, Co-Founder of Passionate Pursuit.

The group’s name comes from their main goal, to passionately pursue the presence of God. What began as an idea to help out just a few kids, has turned into a community-wide outreach ministry.

“Honestly when we first started, we thought we would be doing really good to have 10 people who would come and help, but these people are giving so much of their time and there is people who have land and they’re saying ‘I want to give you this spot’ and they’re building us shooting houses and they’re financing it all, feeding us and it’s just incredible,” said Scott Hinnant, Co-Founder of Passionate Pursuit.

Quantario Gilbert has been hunting with Passionate Pursuit for around 3 years. This hunt, his eye is on something special.

“I’m out here at the river getting ready to kill a big buck to share with my family and friends, just appreciate what everybody does for me and I’m out here to make my mom proud,” said 17-year-old, Quantario Gilbert.

For Gilbert, it’s more than just about learning how to be a better hunter.

“Learn about God and not only about hunting, learn how to become  a better hunter and what we do it for,” said Gilbert.

He describes his relationship with his hunting guides as “family” and looks forward to future hunts.

“That’s my dream, hunting, killing nice bucks and enjoying the out doors,” added Gilbert.

Passionate Pursuit welcomes volunteers of any kind or new people to take out hunting.
