STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – Building strong, economically stable communities is the hot topic of a discussion series touring the state of Mississippi this week.

Nationally-recognized speaker Charles Marohn (Mah-rone) hosted a discussion in Starkville tonight as part of his Strong Towns Curbside Chat series. Strong Towns’ mission is to emphasize higher returns on “existing” infrastructure investments. Marohn says cities are going broke due to unnecessary expansion and can avoid future economic troubles by re-evaluating their development pattern.

“We go through and explain exactly why the mechanisms that we use to fund and finance growth create an illusion of wealth but long term are just devastating from a financial stand point.”

Marohn’s Curbside Chats are sponsored by MSU’s Stennis Institute and the Appalachian Regional Commission.
