Video: Starkville Students Learn Engineering

STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) -Some Starkville students got a feel for what it takes to be an engineer through a NASA funded program.

Graduate Mechanical Engineering students from Mississippi State volunteered to come teach the outreach program that had kids thinking about their future careers. A lot of students were already thinking about what they wanted to study in college. The program started with a small presentation and then students got straight to work.

“There’s engineering behind any product that’s ever been produced and that’s something that I really try to make them realize because a lot of them don’t. So it’s just important to realize that and know that anybody could become an engineer if they’re interested in it,” said teacher Denise Adarr.

Students from 5th to 10th grade were split up in groups and rotated between four different project stations. The station projects included a water balloon launcher, building a bridge, making measurements and much more. The program was geared towards students that are interested in engineering.
