1,000 turkeys needed for the 2021 ‘Turkey Drive’ in Lowndes County

LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI)- Local law enforcement is rounding up turkeys ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday. The Columbus Police Department and the Lowndes Sheriff’s department plan to give away about one thousand turkeys on November 20th at the soccer complex here in Columbus.

The upcoming turkey drive is especially important for senior citizens.

“We have a lot of elderly that will not have meals for thanksgiving,” said LT. Rhonda Sanders from the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Department. “So we want to make sure that these turkeys get into elderly hands and their families will cook for them this Thanksgiving season. We want people to drop all your frozen turkeys off here at the sheriff’s department. We are hundreds of turkeys short of our goal.”

You have until the 19th to drop your turkeys off at the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Department.

In order to pick up a turkey, you must have a Lowndes County ID.
