2% Restaurant Tax Still In The Works
COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI)- The muddy water is becoming a little clearer for the future of the 2% restaurant tax.
In a special called meeting Wednesday, both the Columbus Visitors Bureau and the city made some headway by agreeing to the finances of where money collected from the tax will go.
Both have agreed $300,000 for Propst Park enhancements, $50,000 for the new amphitheater and $50,000 for 4 of our area festivals.
The only problem the two see so far, is deciding on when those payments will be made, due to the differences of the start of the fiscal year for the city and for the CVB.
“We just want to get a payment schedule based on our budget. We’ve already created and crafted a budget for this year, and we would like for the payments to begin and be in correlation with our budget,” said CEO of Visit Columbus, Nancy Carpenter.
The CVB’s fiscal year begins in October while the city’s starts in July.
The CVB has planned another special meeting for next Tuesday, immediately following the city council meeting.
