2019 EndZone Coach of the Year: West Point HC Chris Chambless

WEST POINT, Miss. (WCBI) — In a year where history was broken for many, it’s rare to come across an accomplishment that has only been done a handful of times ever.

The West Point Green Wave won its fourth straight state championship in 2019, defeating undefeated Picayune 38-26. The four-straight titles for the Green Wave is only the third time ever in the history of Mississippi high school football, joining Bassfield and South Panola as the only programs to do it.

The Green Wave led by Chris Chambless, who after the 2019 season of posting a 15-1 record, has a record of 163-33 while at West Point, and collects his sixth state championship as the head coach.

Chambless’ team outscored opponents 34-15, allowing the fewest points-per-game in Class 5A.

West Point tied South Panola for the most state championships in program history (11), and has a chance next year to break the tie and join the Tigers as the only five-straight champion in Mississippi high school football history.
