Hearing Delayed For Calhoun County Educators

CALHOUN COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) -The probable cause hearing for two Calhoun County educators accused of failing to report an alleged sex crime is on hold.

Judge Kelly Luther issued a continuance because the prosecutor in the case, Kevin Howell, also serves as a public defender in Calhoun County.

The plaintiffs attorney submitted a statute that states that Howell cannot serve in both roles in this case.

Late Thursday afternoon, Judge Luther appointed Adam Kirk of Grenada as the new prosecutor.

The hearing stems from a case that started in April of last year.

The then Calhoun County Schools Superintendent Mike Moore and former Bruce High School Principal Mike Gillespie were charged with failure to report an accusation that former Bruce High School coach and teacher Loray Jordan Jr. had inappropriately touched an eighth grade female student.

The judge has not set a new date for the hearing.
