Construction Begins On New Webster County Courthouse

WEBSTER COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – Something Webster County has been waiting six years for, the new county courthouse is under construction in Walthall.

The new building will be along Highway 9 instead of where the original courthouse was in the middle of Walthall.

The project has taken some time to get started, but residents are glad to see a structure rising in their community.

“We had hoped that they would be able to restore and keep the courthouse and add on and supplement and make that still the center of the community. Instead, we’re getting a new courthouse, but we are tickled that we are and that it’s finally under construction and that it’s here in Walthall, as it should be,” says Mayor Belinda Stewart.

The county tells us the building will be finished around the middle of 2019.
