Columbus Police search for suspect involved in car assault

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI)- An investigation is underway in the Friendly City after a local man was attacked in his own car.

It started around 7 p.m. Thursday when a local resident was leaving The Princess Theatre on Fifth Street.

He was approached by a black male who asked for a ride to the Columbus Walmart.

While in the car, the passenger began striking the victim as he was driving past the soccer complex. The victim stopped the car and fought back. The suspect fled on foot.

CPD is combing through surveillance footage to help identify the suspect.
