Natchez Trace workers hoping to punch out non-native privet plant

TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – Contractors will soon be working to clear out a non-native plant along the Natchez Trace Parkway.

Starting next month, contractors will be cutting, spraying and chipping along the roads, trails and pullouts from milepost 206-407.

Natural resource specialist Deanna Boensch said that privet can reduce the quality of life for animals that need a diverse amount of plants for food and shelter.

The Parkway expects to treat about 200 acres of privet.
