Tupelo kids receive shopping spree to prepare for school

TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – Shop ’til you drop. At least that what some kiddos in Tupelo did this morning.

Academy Sports and Outdoors teamed up with the Boys and Girls Club of North Mississippi and 30 kids got a $100 shopping spree.

This is the ninth year for the shopping event.

Kids were able to get what ever they needed to get ready for that first school bell, which isn’t to far away.

Regional Marketing Specialist Rick Burleson says it’s just their way of giving back to the community.

“Being able to bring these kids in, get everything they need from backpacks, to shoes, to pants and shirts, it’s a very rewarding experience,” said Burleson.

Over the next few weeks, Academy says it’ll be outfitting just over 3,000 kids in Mississippi.
