Tornado debris removal begins in Hamilton

MONROE COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – Monday marks the first day of tornado debris removal in Hamilton.

Monroe County Road Manager Sonny Clay said the county has been working since April to get the proper burn permits and leases.

He said a contractor is set to bring in 12 to 15 trucks to help remove debris from the roadside.

“We want to remind all of our landowners that this contractor will make three passes. I know a lot of folks have got so much debris on the right of way they can’t get anything else to it, but as this bulk of it goes through this first time, and they’ll get the bulk of it this first go around, that’ll clear some more room so you can bring some other things to the road. We will require the contractor to make three passes,” said Clay.

Clay also said the contractor signed a 90-day agreement, however, he thinks the job will only take about 30 days to complete.
