Louisville mother outraged over sentencing her son’s killer received

LOUISVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – A Louisville man was sentenced to 20 years in prison for killing a teenager in March of 2018.

On Thursday, Isaiah Riggins pled guilty to second-degree murder in the death of 16-year-old Tylan Glenn.

Tasha Hannah Glenn, Tylan’s mother, told WCBI she’s outraged over Thursday’s sentencing.

She believed Riggins should be charged with first-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison.

“Words cannot describe how I feel as a mother who has lost a child to such a vicious crime like this,” said Glenn.

Nearly two years after her son was shot and killed, the pain still lingers for Glenn.

“This was the most traumatic thing that a parent could ever go through,” Glenn expressed. “There’s no way that a parent should have to go through a situation where they have to bury their child.”

The 2018 shooting happened on Mt. Moriah Circle in Louisville.

According to investigators, the two had a domestic dispute which led to the shooting.

Glenn was in the courtroom when her son’s killer entered a plea deal on Thursday.

“This man showed absolutely no remorse for what he did, none at all,” the mother said.

The Louisville mother believed the murder was premeditated and thinks Riggins deserved more than 20 years in prison.

However, according to Glenn, investigators misplaced key pieces of evidence such as shell casings collected at the crime scene.

She believed that played a big factor in Riggins getting a plea deal.

“The DAs (district attorneys) got up there and like I said, their words were, they were scared,” Glenn recalled. “They were scared to take this trial to court because of the way the Louisville Police Department has mishandled the evidence.”

Glenn admitted this isn’t the outcome she wanted.

In the courtroom on Thursday, Glenn took the stand pleading to the DAs and the judge to give Riggins a stiffer punishment.

“Do I feel like justice was served? No I do not,” said Glenn. “I would like to have seen for him to get life in prison. For you to shoot a 16-year-old that many times, this was personal.”

In the midst of this tough time, she said she’s going to continue to lean on her faith and fight on her son’s behalf.

“No one will ever understand how I feel,” said Glenn. “As far as what happened today, it’s the worst thing. The city of Louisville did not care, they didn’t care at all.”

Tylan Glenn was in the 11th grade and was on course to graduate from high school a semester early.

Another suspect, 19-year-old Jordan Miller, was charged with Accessory After the Fact of Murder in this case.

However, Glenn told WCBI, charges against him have since been dropped.
