Lowndes & Oktibbeha To Benefit From BP Oil Spill Settlement

LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – A Lowndes County mega site will get a big road connection from the BP oil spill lawsuit settlement.

Charleigh Ford Drive will be paved from Airport Road to Mims Road.

Lowndes County is one of 71 in the state that will receive money from the settlement.

Most of the 750 million dollar settlement is going to six coastal counties.

The Golden Triangle Development LINK says the one million Lowndes County is receiving will give access to the Infinity mega site, via Airport Road and extend to Highway 82.

“Right now, we are developing plans and specs for the paving north of there. And we talked to our county engineer yesterday, Bob Calvert, made him aware that the funds would be available and told him to go ahead and start including that in his design work on the whole project, that we anticipate will probably start construction in the spring of 19,” said Golden Triangle Development LINK CEO Joe Max Higgins.

Oktibbeha County is receiving $750,000 to resurface Longview Road.

Clay and Noxubee Counties did not receive any settlement money in the bill passed during the recent special session.
