New Lafayette County sheriff sworn-in

LAFAYETTE COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – A new sheriff has been sworn in to lead Lafayette County Sheriff’s Department.

Joey East was surrounded by family as he was sworn in as the new sheriff of Lafayette County Friday morning.

He will begin his official duties on January 1.

East was previously the police chief at Oxford Police Department.

He beat independent candidate Jeffrey South in the general election.
