Amory woman dies in apartment fire

AMORY, Miss. (WCBI) – An Amory woman has died in an early morning apartment fire.

Monroe County Coroner Alan Gurley said Sherry Lackey was found dead in her apartment by a friend Friday.

Amory Police Department, Amory Fire Department and EMS also found a fire that was out in the apartment.

There was heavy smoke damage to the apartment.

A next-door neighbor said she smelled smoke around 3:00 a.m., but thought it was a heater.

A Deputy Fire Marshall is helping the Amory Fire Department investigate.

Amory Police Department is also investigating.

Lackey’s body was sent to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.
