Juvenile to stand trial as an adult after attempted escape

LEE COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – One of the four juveniles who escaped the Lee County Juvenile Detention Center in August will stand trial as an adult.

Teiryn Nichols, 16, is being held on a $500,000 bond on charges of Aggravated Assault of an Officer and Felony Taking of a Motor Vehicle.

Nichols and three others overpowered a jailer at the center August 31 and fled into East Tupelo.

Three were captured near the center and the fourth the next morning.

The other three will not be upgraded to stand trial as adults.
