Celebration honors Army retiree
COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI)- A celebration took place to celebrate Sergeant First Class Fred Shelton’s retirement from the U.S. Army.
Shelton served in the army for over two decades and has been pulling double duty over the years serving as a police officer, police chief, and active U.S. Army member.
The speaker for tonight’s occasion was Dr.Stan McCrary.
Shelton says that tonight is a new beginning, but he would do it all over again.
” It’s been good, and the army has played has played a major role in my development. One of the things about when you sacrifice for your country, you sacrifice your family, and so I missed a lot of birthdays, holidays, graduation because I was serving my country, but if I had to do it again, I’d do it again because I have to understand that to make this country safe for my grandchildren and children will grow in a safer environment,” said Chief Shelton.
Shelton says even after tonight, he will always be a soldier for life.
