A warrant in Itawamba County leads to an arrest on felony charges
ITAWAMBA COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – Law Enforcement officers will tell you there’s no such thing as a “typical” call. An incident this week in Itawamba County proves that.
Itawamba County Sheriff’s Deputies and Agents with the North Mississippi Narcotics Unit went to a property on John Rankin Highway in Fulton to serve a warrant on Brian Lee Harmon for Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Substance – Methamphetamine.
When they got there, Harmon ran towards the rear of the property and reportedly tried to dispose of a possible controlled substance on the way.
Agents and deputies caught him and took him into custody, but given the circumstances and the possibility that Harmon may have disposed of drugs, they got a search warrant for the property.
The search reportedly turned up a felony amount of meth, along with multiple firearms. As the search progressed, they also reportedly found chemicals and materials consistent with manufacturing explosives.
At that point, the Tupelo PD Bomb Squad and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives were called in. They reportedly identified precursor chemicals and components that would indicate a homemade explosive lab, as well as homemade firearm suppressors.
Harmon is currently charged with Felony Possession of Meth, enhanced due to the presence of firearms, and Felony Tampering with Evidence.
The investigation is still open, and Federal charges are pending.
