MS Black Caucus encourages voter participation ahead of election
The Mississippi Legislative Black Caucus and the local NAACP branch host a town hall in Louisville.
LOUISVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – General election is right around the corner, and one Mississippi organization is making sure voters are ready.
Members of the Mississippi Legislative Black Caucus stopped in Louisville Monday night, August 31, for a town hall meeting ahead of midterms.
The MLBC partnered with the NAACP – Winston County Branch for the event.
Democratic elected officials and county leaders spoke on topics such as the possible of redrawing of the state’s congressional districts and new state gun laws.
Leaders said they wanted to bring awareness to voting and help inform the community about the upcoming election.
“You know, our main topic was getting out to vote …. because in Winston County, we have 90% of our people who are registered to vote, but when the election time come, we don’t get that many to come … So, this is a crucial year right here, for voting. We got to vote, you know, it’s up to us. To make a change,” said Dean Miller, president of the NAACP – Winston County Branch.
Participants also had the chance to express their concern and ask questions.
NAACP officials said this was the second town hall in Louisville.
