Tupelo Police begin enforcement of Kratom ban this weekend
TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – Tupelo Police are putting some city businesses on notice.
The city’s ordinance prohibiting kratom and kratom products takes effect Saturday, September 12th.
The City Council passed the ordinance in February, but enforcement was delayed while challenges made their way through the courts.
During that time businesses were still able to sell the products.
With those challenges out of the way, enforcement of the ordinance will begin at 10:00 AM Saturday.
Police say businesses that have been selling kratom or kratom products should make preparations to comply with the ordinance before that time.
Police Chief John Quaka says the goal is voluntary compliance.
