FULTON, Miss. (WCBI) – One person who knows all to well the dangers of not having body armor is Public Service Commissioner Brandon Presley.

Presley’s uncle, the late Harold Ray Presley, was a veteran law enforcement officer and two-term Lee County Sheriff.

He was killed in a shoot-out with a kidnapping suspect in the Summer of 2001. He had just taken off his vest due to the summer heat.

“Every time we see an officer shooting, the first thing people look at is did they have their vest on? And having lived through that, you realize the importance of making sure officers are properly equipped and that the money is being spent to make sure they’re taken care of when it comes to their protection,” said Commissioner Presley.

Commissioner Presley also reminds departments  there is grant money available for purchasing safety equipment, such as body armor.
