Oxford School Evacuated After Accidental Gas Line Rupture

PRESS RELEASE
Oxford, Mississippi–On Monday afternoon at Oxford Middle School (OMS), the gas line to the school cafeteria was damaged when a vendor making a routine delivery accidentally hit the gas line regulator while unloading the delivery truck. OMS teachers and administrators safely evacuated students from the school, while the Oxford Fire Department, School Resource Officers and school maintenance staff addressed the incident.
The gas line to the cafeteria is currently being repaired, which will impact how school cafeteria staff prepare breakfast and lunch on Tuesday, October 6. A school lunch entree will be served, but the school district will be unable to prepare the lunch entree previously scheduled for Tuesday, October 6. Parents and families can send a sack lunch with their child to school, if they choose to do so.
School officials are thankful for all who helped make sure all were safe on our middle school campus today. As the gas line to the school cafeteria is repaired, we will keep parents and our community up to date with any changes made regarding this incident.
