Babcock and Wilcox Slated For Closure

WEST POINT, MS (WCBI) –  One of West Point’s largest employers could be closing.  Babcock and Wilcox informed workers late Thursday of corporate management’s recommendation that the company cease manufacturing operations no later than the end of the third quarter of 2016

B&W produces industrial boilers and other items for power plants.  Approximately 200 people are employed in West Point.   Area economic development officials say the announcement comes as a complete surprise and efforts are already underway to see if there are options to keep the facility operating in West Point.
