COLUMBUS, MISS. (WCBI)– Santa rides in his sleigh from twelve thousand miles away and lands it at Leigh Mall. After getting the reindeer settled, he slides down to his big chair and waits for his fans to come sit in his lap and tell him what they want for Christmas. Santa has advice for everyone who’s on his list that he checks twice.

“The truth of the matter is that Santa is real to anyone who keeps the spirit of Christmas in their hearts.”

Living life as Santa is a big deal and it makes you wonder what it’s really like to do his job? Santa says it’s very rewarding.

“Well, it’s very entertaining, but rewarding because you get to full-fill the fantasies of little children and some big children who like to come by and talk to Santa about what they like to have for Christmas, but also about whether they’ve been good boys and good girls and the whole Santa thing.”

Santa comes from the North Pole and spends eleven hours at Leigh Mall seeing little ones and even adults.

“I had a lady that was about thirty-five years old come in the week before last and she said she had never, ever talked to Santa and she wanted to do that, so she came in and she sat on my knee and she told me what she wanted for Christmas.”

Kids dress in their best Christmas clothes and best behavior to wait in line to see the man in red each year. Albany Mercer was thrilled to get to tell Santa her Christmas wishes.

“I have my brother and sister and their excited to see him and I’m just excited to tell Santa what I want for Christmas.”

Seeing Old Saint Nicholas means just as much for parent, Andrew Mercer, as it does for his children.

“Well it’s kind of special for us because our two youngest, Will and Suzie, we just adopted them in September and this is only the second time they’ve gotten to see Santa. It’s a pretty exciting experience for our family to get do that.”

Regardless if you are three months or thirty years, Santa will always hold a place in your heart as you do in his.
