Video: Area Power Crews Headed To Help

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – 4-County Electric Power Association crews headed north early this morning to help restore power after yesterday’s tornadoes.

Two four-man crews (an all-volunteer group) left Columbus at 6 a.m. today, en route to the Ripley area e. There they will aid Tippah County Electric Power Association in repairing damage to the system’s power lines. Initial reports from the area indicate the damage seems to be a large number of broken poles and downed power lines. An estimated 1,200 Tippah members were without power Thursday morning.

In addition to the crews, 4-County sent several large pieces of equipment to assist in the recovery process, including two bucket trucks, two digger trucks and two crew trucks.

4-County has a reciprocal agreement with the other 25 member-owned electric power associations in Mississippi to provide help for each other in times of crisis.

According to the Electric Power Associations of Mississippi, four electric power associations in North Mississippi including Coahoma, Northcentral, Northeast and Tippah suffered damage in the storms, Tippah and Coahoma have requested help from sister co-ops.

The 4-County crews could spend Christmas helping rebuild lines depending on how well restoration work goes today.

Two Crews From Tupelo Water and Light are also spending Christmas Eve helping storm victims. Those teams left Tupelo at 6 this morning headed to the storm damaged regions.
