STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI)- Mississippi State honored Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. by celebrating the “labor” behind his legacy.

Over 1,000 people attended the 22nd Unity Breakfast and day of service program. In a crowded room, residents, faculty, and students were served breakfast.

Neddie Winters, President of Mission Mississippi, was the guest speaker.

Winters encouraged members of the audience to volunteer in the community after the program, as a way to honor King’s life.

Students and faculty say the diversity in the crowd is a reflection of King’s dream, and giving back is a way to celebrate it.

After the program, students gathered at different buses to be taken to volunteer service projects in the area.
