Video: Details Set For Debut Of New Columbus Chief

Oscar Lewis III will begin his work as the new Columbus Chief of Police
on February 19, 2016. In an announcement made Wednesday afternoon by
Mayor Robert Smith, details of Lewis’ plans were outlined.
“I will swear in Chief Lewis at the next city council meeting on February
16, “ said Smith. “He will then begin to direct the department on February
19. We look forward to having him here and working with the fine men and
women of the department and our community.”
The Columbus City Council selected Lewis as chief on January 19 after
three candidates were interviewed for the position. Lewis is currently
serving as Chief of Police in Waynesboro, MS.
Fred Shelton is currently serving as Interim Police Chief for the Columbus
Police Department.
