North Mississippi County Opens Amnesty Program For Old Fines
IUKA, Miss. (AP) – People with old, unpaid fines in Tishomingo County can avoid additional contempt of court charges by settling their accounts during March.
In an effort to clear a backlog of old fines and warrants, Sheriff John D. Daugherty tells the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal (http://bit.ly/1XXxoEg) the Justice Court will be offering an amnesty program.
Daugherty says the program is designed to help individuals who may have found themselves in violation of a court order, because they were financially unable to pay fines.
The amnesty program will run from March 1 through April 1 and will only cover fines prior to March 1. Daugherty says people can pay outstanding fines, resume payments or create a new payment plan. By doing so, old arrest warrants for failure to pay or appear will be rescinded.
