MUW Welcomes PBL Students From Across The State

COLUMBUS, Miss. (PRESS RELEASE) — Many community leaders and college students will be on Mississippi University for Women’s campus to compete at the Phi Beta Lambda State Leadership Conference March 2-4.

“The PBL State Leadership Conference gives our students a great opportunity to get out of the classroom and put their knowledge to the test against their peers. Those students that do well in their events at the state level have the opportunity to represent Mississippi at the National Leadership Conference this summer,” said Thomas Haffey, Phi Beta Lambda adviser and PBL professional division member.

During the PBL conference, students will compete in more than 50 business, legal and leadership-oriented events with students from community colleges and universities from throughout Mississippi.

The students who place during their events will qualify to compete against winners from across the United States at the National Leadership Conference in Atlanta, June 24-27.

“For the College of Business and Professional Studies, hosting the conference is a team effort that requires planning and organization throughout the year to get us to this week,” added Haffey.

“We are excited to get the chance to show off The W to so many exceptional students with the hope that they will choose us to further their education in the future.”

Jennifer Gregory, chief executive officer of the Greater Starkville Development Partnership, will serve as the keynote speaker for the opening ceremony Wednesday, March 2.

Students will also attend a fish fry and tour Columbus on the double decker bus, an event sponsored by the Columbus Convention & Visitors Bureau starting at the Riverwalk Thursday, March 3 at 5 p.m.

This is third year that The W has hosted the conference.

The event is open to all majors.

Interested W students should contact Haffey at thaffey@muw.edu.
