CALEDONIA, Miss.(WCBI)–Coming to a classroom near you at Caledonia Elementary School, its the first ever Caledonia Film Festival. Instead of the big screen, a half dozen documentaries are being prepared to show on classroom smart boards for public viewing.
Some Caledonia 5th graders seem to be just as busy as big screen movie and television writers and producers. And the finished product is sure to be a hit when its released for viewing.
“And they are going to record it on their mac books and we’ll invite parents and community members in to view it in the classroom. We’re going to set the classroom up like a movie theatre. And parents will be able to watch it on the promethean board. So its going to be like a big film festival,” said Christi Newman/CES Teacher.
“We’re doing Apollo 11, my group. And we just did the socratic seminar, and we just finished writing our passage and now we are working on our script,” said Matthew Lee/Caledonia Elementary School.
Each group of students know well whats expected of them and what role they’ll play.
“We have 6 groups in our classroom and each group is responsible for putting their own documentary together,” said Christi Newman.
“I’m doing Elvis Presley and how he changed history. And I really think that he effected history a total amount, a lot. Because he is like changed music and peoples lives just through his music,” said Reid Fishel/Caledonia Elementary School.
Without depleting funds from their tight production budget, as if they really had one; the film producers even brought in a professional writer and voice coach in order to perfect their narrations of historical pieces.
“Got the basics down, now I just got to tone in the details and make sure I’ve got all the spelling and stuff correct,” said Reid Fishel.
By doing research, writing, and narrations, they are incorporating all the necessary required academics.
“History, writing, reading, science, one group is doing Jonas Salk and the polio vaccine. So it covers, it goes across the content,” said Christi Newman.
The Caledonia Film Festival opens March 30th in Lowndes County.
