TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – More than $100,000 of grant money was awarded to numerous counties throughout North Mississippi.

It’s the hard work of many years paying off for the Mississippi Hills National Heritage Area.

Tuesday was the first time for the group to give away grants for projects throughout their 30-county area.

Marshall County was awarded four grants, from education to the tourism bureau, for a total of more than $11,000.

Tupelo was given $20,000 to start the planning for a new welcome exhibit in the CVB.

The director of Mississippi Hills says she wants to get the word out about the grant money so more recipients can be awarded.

“You know, we’re here and we want to help. And if you’re within our 30-county area you are able to apply,” said Mary Cates Williams, MHHAA Executive Director.

15 counties were awarded grants. There is money left over that will be given as education grants to those who apply.
