STARKVILLE, Miss. (AP) – Starkville Mayor Parker Wiseman has vetoed an order that provided for the installation of a plaque honoring the present board of aldermen, not the previous administration, for helping plan, finance and construct a new municipal headquarters.
The Commercial Dispatch reports (http://bit.ly/13X7JFI) that aldermen voted 4-3 last week to recognize themselves even though the previous board approved the $6 million facility.
Wiseman vetoed the order Monday. Five votes are required to override the veto. The board meets on Jan. 6.
Wiseman says any plaque should include the names of the three boards to accurately reflect the history of the project.
Wiseman also says West Brothers Construction Company and architect Briar Jones should also be listed on a future plaque.
Construction of the facility began after financing was approved in 2012.
