JACKSON, Miss. (WCBI) — If some Mississippi lawmakers have their way, parents will have more schools for their kids to choose from.

Legislation to expand access to charter schools passed the House, and now heads to the Senate.

Senate Bill 2161 would allow students in school districts with C, D or F ratings to cross district lines to attend a charter school.

Right now, students can only attend a charter in the district where they live.

State senators can either approve the current bill as is, or have more debate on a final bill.
