Homicide Suspect Shot in Officer-Involved Shooting

TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) — A Baldwyn homicide suspect is hospitalized, following an officer-involved shooting.

Tupelo Police Capt. Chuck McDougald tells WCBI one of their officers spotted the man in Tupelo around 5:30 p.m., Saturday.

Police then started chasing the suspect near Cliff Gookin Boulevard, and pursued him through several parts of town.

“During that pursuit, the suspect did fire shots at our officers,” McDougald said. “Once the suspect made it into the area behind us, which is the Hilldale Apartments, he was blocked in. One of our officers did collide with his car, at which point another gun battle occurred.”

Tupelo police are not releasing the suspect’s name at this time.

He was taken to the emergency room at North Mississippi Medical Center. His condition is unknown.

No police officers were hurt.

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is now taking over the case.
