Video: Deputies Looking for A Killer And Answers

OKTIBBEHA COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – Questions remain and a killer is on the loose tonight in Oktibbeha County.

No one has been arrested in the shooting death of Willie Allen Turner.

Turner’s death is the first homicide in Oktibbeha County this year. Now, deputies need help finding a gunman.

“He was one of those guys, he was there for his mom, he was there for us all. We needed him, he came to us, and it just hurts so bad,” says Melvin Jordan.

Willie Turner and his cousin Melvin Jordan grew up together. Now, one of Jordan’s last memories of his close friend is when they last saw each other, and when he learned about the deadly shooting.

“Not Willie Tee, no, I was with him last night. He said they found him, and I said what happened? He said we don’t know, and it just changed my whole Fourth, and since the whole thing happened, I’ve just been in chaos about it. I’ve just not been myself,” says Jordan.

Jordan believes he knows why Turner was killed.

“It happened because they knew he had a few dollars on him. That was the whole reason. Take a man’s life for a few dollars, take him away from his loving family, his community, and he’s the type, he’s a careful person, so whoever it was, he knew them because he doesn’t just let strangers get up close on him,” says Jordan.

Oktibbeha County Sheriff Steve Gladney says investigators continue to interview possible witnesses and collect evidence.

“We think, you know, robbery was the motive, and yes it happened there. We’re trying to establish a timeline right now,” says Gladney.

Gladney says deputies need the public’s help to solve the crime.

“We want to bring these people to justice for this, and we’re not going to stop until we do, so our thing is if anybody knows anything, saw anything that could be important, to please call us and tell us because we need that information.”

While deputies search for the killer, family members are leaning on the time they spent with Turner to help them through this tragic time.

“Go out in the neighbors pasture, and catch the horses, and put Kroger sacks on them, and ride them until we couldn’t ride no more, and we could hardly walk from being sore,” says Jordan.

Call Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers with any information.
