Video: Salvation Army Helps Residents Cool Off
COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — The Salvation Army wants to give some North Mississippi residents a break from the summer heat.
Starting Thursday, the Columbus facility is setting itself up as a cooling station.
The non-profit is opening up its waiting area for folks, giving them a place to cool down and enjoy cold water.
“Being so hot, and the knowledge I have of clients that we have that do not have air conditioning, and maybe out in the heat, and just to give them a kind of a respite, to get away from it, and have some water and sit under a fan, sit under air conditioning,” said Major Alan Phillips, Commanding Officer for the Salvation Army Columbus Corps.
The Salvation Army’s cooling station is available weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. while a heat advisory is in effect.
