COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — Columbus Air Force Base has a new leader.
Col. Douglas Gosney officially takes over as commander of the base’s 14th Flying Training Wing, in a change of command ceremony Friday morning.
Col. Gosney most recently served as a commander at Barksdale Air Force Base in Shreveport, Louisiana.
He’s a command pilot with more than 3,300 hours in the B-52 and T-38 planes, and serves as an instructor for both.
Gosney tells WCBI he’s looking forward to living here in the Friendly City.
“We had an incredibly warm reception,” Gosney said. “It’s a beautiful area. People have been so friendly. We are just excited to be here, and be part of the mission, and serve with our amazing community partners, and our airmen here at Team Blaze.”
Former base commander, Col. John Nichols, is heading to Barksdale Air Force Base for his next assignment.
