VIDEO: Supporting The Youth

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI)- One local organization is trying to help impact the lives of the youth of Columbus in a positive way.

The Sports Mas Inc. partnered with Nu Generation to host its first ever Youth Explosion.

Kids of all ages came out to play together and get to know one another.

There was also a guest speaker on hand to give the kids a motivational speech.

Organizers of the event said it’s important to let the youth know they have people, outside of their families, who care for them.

“It seems in our generation, it’s so many odds stacked against our children, but the future of our cities, and communities is locked up with the dreams of our children,” said Pastor R.J. Matthews, of Kingdom Vision International Church.  “So to give them opportunities to come to reveal to them their value, and their importance and to just be surrounded by a community that loves them is vital to them.”

“It’s so important because there’s a new generation coming, and I think we have a hard time really accepting the new ways of the new generation, and a lot of times we just have to engage with the new generation and just help nourish them, then they’ll shine brightly,” said George Lowe Sr., Columbus resident.

This is the first year the organization has put this event on, they plan to make it an annual one.
