From Fight To Federal Charges

OKOLONA, Miss. (WCBI) — A fight with his girlfriend has grown into a federal court case for an Illinois man who has been living in Okolona since shortly after Christmas.

42 year old Anthony Hawkins was picked up by Okolona Police August 3rd.

A routine computer check showed Hawkins was a convicted sex offender from Illinois who never registered in Missisisippi.

U.S. Marshall Richard Upchurch says in court papers he interviewed Hawkins last week and Hawkins admitted he was a sex offender and did not register here because he did not intend on staying in the state.

Hawkins is now charged with failure to register as a sex offender and is being held until a federal grand jury meets to consider the case.
