Having Fun Camping Out For Labor Day Weekend
LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI)-Labor Day is right around the corner.
Many people maybe spending their time out on the grill for Labor Day weekend, however, in Lowndes county, camping is one of the more popular activities people are doing to bring in the holiday.
The warm sun, the summer breeze, and the calmness of the water makes the last holiday of the summer one to enjoy.
“Have a break from life and have a good time,” said Don Boothe, who camped out at the Lake Lowndes State Park this Labor Day Weekend.
For Don Boothe traveling to various state parks camping out on Labor Day weekend has become an annual tradition.
“I’ve had a travel trailer for about ten years now,” he said.
And this year, Boothe kept that tradition alive.
“I try to get out with my family, my son has a camper, and my friends, and we just come down here at rent an area,” he said.
For this Labor Day Weekend, Boothe and his family crossed over the Alabama state line into Mississippi and found a camping area at the Lake Lowndes State Park.
“It’s just a nice place and my grand-kids, it’s safe for them to play and have a good time,” the camper said.
The kids were having a good time swinging on hammocks, while the adults were having fun playing card games
However, Boothe said grilling was his favorite activity of the weekend.
“We cook ribs, and chicken wings, we set around and eat and watch football,” he said.
Booth said for him, Labor Day weekend is a time to be be around and enjoy family and friends, and said camping is the perfect activity to help bring everyone together.
“Well when you get 64 years old, just being able to come and spend time with your family and your grand kids, and cook, and be around each other.” he said. “It’s a blessing from God because a lot of people don’t have that.”
Labor Day weekend is always a busy time for the Lake Lowndes State Park. One park ranger tells WCBI they were all booked up this Labor Day Weekend.
