MEMPHIS, Tenn., June 1, 2015- Baptist Memorial Health Care recently conducted an economic impact study with the Sparks Bureau of Business and Economic Research/ Center for Manpower Studies at the University of Memphis’ Fogelman at the College of Business and Economics
In fiscal year 2012, Baptist had total operating revenues of more than $1.5 billion as a result of providing acute hospital care services to area citizens, resulting in a total production of goods and services (output) value of more than $2.6 billion; total salaries, wages, and benefits of $1.1 billion; 21,263 full- and part-time jobs; and state and local taxes generated in excess of $89 million.
Locally, in 2012, Baptist Golden Triangle had total operating revenues of $136 million with a total output or production of goods and services value of nearly $193 million, according to the study. Salaries, wages and benefits were more than $77 million; the hospital provided 1,808 full and part time jobs and paid $6.1 million in state and local taxes.
The hospital had an indirect output impact of more than $25 million which includes purchases made by businesses using money earned by supplying goods or services to the facility, or money being recirculated into the local economy, according to the study.
The hospital also provided $77.5 million in labor income to the community in 2012, including $58.7 million in direct income impact or money paid directly to employees in salaries, wages and benefits.
