National Truck Driver Appreciation Week

WEST POINT, Miss. (WCBI)-Sunday marks the start of National Truck Driver Appreciation Week..

To help celebrate the nationwide event, Royal Trucking Company in West Point, held its annual Driver Appreciation luncheon.

Nearly a hundred drivers and their families were in attendance for the luncheon.

Everyone who came out had the chance to enjoy a nice meal and win prizes.

Royal Trucking Company tells WCBI, businesses like Yokohama has increased the growth of the trucking industry.

They company says its drivers are the backbone of the company, they’re the ones who brings in all of the company’s revenue.

“They do it under a very strainious and unique circumstance,” said Karl Henson, Director of Compliance Capacity Development at Royal Trucking Company. “We’ve got electronic logs in our trucks, they have hour of service issues, and in addition to that, they’re dealing with traffic, weather, congested traffic. It’s a pretty tough job, and on top of all of that, the drivers are away from home four or five days a week, so they’re separated from their families and they’re several hundred hours away.”

Royal Trucking has nearly 250 drivers and delivers to 48 states and Canada.
