Video: Mississippi Bicentennial First Stop Is In Columbus
COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – Area students get a look at two important pieces of Mississippi History on Monday.
Visit Columbus is hosting an exhibit of the original 1817 Mississippi Constitution, and the 1818 United States flag that flew over the nation after Mississippi became a state.
Students from all over Columbus and Lowndes County came to see the displays, and got a sense of Mississippi and it’s roots.
“We’re the first of the celebratory activities for the Mississippi Bicentennial, so we’re fortunate that they have chosen Columbus as the first stop, and some of you may not know, but Columbus once served as the capital of Mississippi,” says Columbus-Lowndes Convention and Visitors Bureau Executive Director, Nancy Carpenter.
Columbus’ status as a former state capitol helped the city get first dibs on the exhibit.
The two day event ended Monday evening.
