Bridge Reopens In Itawamba County
Tupelo, Miss.—The Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) has reopened the State Route 178 Mantachie Creek Bridge in Itawamba County.

“This bridge has been closed since early summer to make repairs to the bridge’s substructure and superstructure,” said MDOT District One Engineer Mark Holley. “These repairs will extend the life of the bridge and hold off a very costly replacement project.”
Crews replaced and straightened the bridge’s steel truss members and painted all exposed steel members of the bridge. This process will protect the exposed steel from weathering.
“We are happy with the repairs that have been made to the State Route 178 Bridge to get it back open to traffic,” said MDOT Executive Director Melinda McGrath. “However, crews still have work to perform on the bridge and we ask the traveling public to use extreme caution as they travel through this work zone.”
Since additional maintenance work is needed on the bridge, a temporary load restriction of 10 tons will be placed on the bridge during the repairs.
